10 Most Muslim-Friendly Cities in Europe (2026 Ranking)

Not all European cities are equal for Muslim travellers — and knowing which ones make halal travel effortless can shape your whole itinerary. The cities below are ranked on the things that actually matter day to day: the density and quality of halal restaurants, the ease of finding prayer facilities, the presence of Muslim neighbourhoods where halal is the default, and the general comfort of being visibly Muslim in public.

Every city on this list has a dedicated, address-verified city guide on this site, so you can move from overview to street-level detail in one click. Use this ranking to choose your bases, then drill into the guides to plan each day.

1. London, United Kingdom

London is the benchmark against which every other European city is measured for halal travel. The capital's Muslim population — well over a million — supports entire streets where halal is the default: Edgware Road's Lebanese and Middle Eastern row, Whitechapel's curry houses and Whitechapel Road's butchers, Tooting's South Asian corridor. Whatever cuisine you crave — Pakistani, Turkish, Somali, Malaysian, Persian, Levantine — London has it, halal, within a Tube ride.

Prayer is equally easy: London Central Mosque in Regent's Park, the East London Mosque, and hundreds of neighbourhood masjids, plus prayer rooms in major shopping centres and airports. Halal certification (notably HMC) is widely understood, supermarket halal ranges are extensive, and visible Muslim dress is utterly unremarkable. If you only visit one European city as a Muslim traveller, make it London. Read our halal guide to London.

2. Birmingham, United Kingdom

Birmingham may surprise visitors who only know London, but Britain's second city is arguably even denser in halal options per square mile. Ladypool Road and Stratford Road form a continuous halal corridor of Pakistani grill houses, Middle Eastern restaurants, dessert parlours and butchers. The famous Balti — invented here — is halal by default across the city's Balti houses.

As the city with one of the highest Muslim population shares in Western Europe, Birmingham offers mosques in every neighbourhood, an alcohol-free halal steakhouse in the city centre, and prices noticeably lower than London. It is an outstanding base for Muslim family travel. See our halal guide to Birmingham.

3. Paris, France

France has the largest Muslim population in Western Europe, and Paris shows it. Halal butchers are a normal sight in the 18th, 19th and 20th arrondissements; the streets around Barbès, Belleville and Stalingrad are lined with halal North African, Lebanese, Turkish and West African restaurants. The Grande Mosquée de Paris — with its famous tea room and hammam — anchors the 5th arrondissement.

Paris rewards halal travellers who learn its geography: the tourist centre has thinner options, but a short Métro ride to the eastern arrondissements opens up hundreds of choices. Prices are higher than Berlin or Birmingham, but the quality and variety of North African and Levantine cooking is unmatched on the continent. Explore our halal guide to Paris.

4. Berlin, Germany

Berlin's Turkish community — one of the largest outside Turkey — has made this the döner capital of the world, and halal eating here is both effortless and extremely affordable. Kreuzberg and Neukölln are the heartlands: Sonnenallee, Oranienstraße and Müllerstraße offer Turkish grills, Arab restaurants, halal chicken shops and Middle Eastern bakeries at prices that embarrass Paris and London.

Mosques are plentiful, including the landmark Şehitlik Mosque, and Turkish supermarkets provide superb self-catering. Berlin is the best-value major halal destination in Western Europe — ideal for longer stays and tight budgets. Read our halal guide to Berlin.

5. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam's compact centre packs an impressive halal scene driven by Moroccan, Turkish, Surinamese and Middle Eastern communities. The Nieuwendijk and the streets around Slotermeer offer halal restaurants within walking distance of the canals and museums, and the city's famous falafel and shawarma shops are halal by default.

The Netherlands' pragmatic culture extends to prayer facilities — the city has numerous mosques, and the compact layout means you are never far from the halal neighbourhoods. Amsterdam is pricier than Berlin but the convenience for a short city break is hard to beat. See our halal guide to Amsterdam.

6. Brussels, Belgium

Brussels combines a large Moroccan and Turkish community with a compact, walkable centre. The streets around Gare du Midi and through Molenbeek and Saint-Josse are dense with halal restaurants — Moroccan tagine houses, Turkish grills, Lebanese spots and halal friteries (yes, halal chips shops exist, and they are wonderful).

Belgium's halal butchery tradition is strong, supermarket halal ranges are good, and the Grand Mosque of Brussels sits in Cinquantenaire Park. As a bonus, Brussels is an hour by train from Paris and Amsterdam, making it a natural multi-city hub. Explore our halal guide to Brussels.

7. Manchester, United Kingdom

Manchester's Curry Mile — Wilmslow Road in Rusholme — is one of the most concentrated halal dining streets in Europe: mile after mile of Pakistani, Middle Eastern, Turkish and South Indian restaurants, nearly all halal. The city's large Muslim population supports mosques in every district and a deep bench of halal butchers and supermarkets.

Manchester is also a superb value base: accommodation and eating out cost far less than London, the city is compact, and day trips across the North are easy. For Muslim travellers wanting the UK halal experience without London prices, this is the pick. Read our halal guide to Manchester.

8. Vienna, Austria

Vienna's Turkish, Bosnian and Arab communities sustain a halal scene that surprises first-time visitors. The districts from the 5th to the 8th — around Reinprechtsdorfer Straße, Lerchenfelder Straße and the Brunnenmarkt area — are lined with Turkish grills, Bosnian ćevapi restaurants (halal by default), Persian kitchens and Middle Eastern bakeries.

The city is clean, safe, compact and very walkable, with an imperial grandeur that makes it a favourite for Muslim couples and families alike. Prices sit between Berlin and Paris. Mosques are well distributed, and the Islamic Centre Vienna is a notable landmark. See our halal guide to Vienna.

9. Glasgow, United Kingdom

Scotland's largest city is one of Britain's halal capitals. Pollokshields — the heart of Glasgow's South Asian community — is a dense halal corridor, while the Merchant City and West End add upscale Middle Eastern, Turkish and Persian options. Some West End institutions have served halal food since the 1960s.

Glasgow combines the UK's structural halal advantages — English language, HMC certification, prayer rooms — with notably friendly locals and lower prices than Edinburgh or London. It is an excellent, underrated base for Muslim travellers exploring Scotland. Explore our halal guide to Glasgow.

10. Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona earns the final spot as the most Muslim-friendly city in Iberia. El Raval and Eixample host Pakistani, Moroccan, Turkish and Middle Eastern restaurants that make halal eating straightforward, and the city's beachside setting adds a holiday dimension the northern cities cannot match.

Spain's Islamic heritage — visible in Andalusia's mosques-turned-cathedrals — gives the country a special resonance for Muslim travellers, and Barcelona's halal infrastructure, while thinner than London's or Berlin's, is solid and growing. Prices are moderate, the food scene is exciting, and the Mediterranean climate is a genuine draw. Read our halal guide to Barcelona.

Honourable mentions

Several more cities narrowly missed the top ten. Dublin has a warm, growing halal scene centred on Parnell Street and Capel Street. Lisbon offers halal-certified Indian and Pakistani kitchens around Martim Moniz at Iberian prices. Milan and Rome cover Italy's essentials, Madrid's Lavapiés is a genuine halal quarter, and Prague rewards adventurous eaters with Uzbek and Turkish gems. Each has a full guide on this site.

Frequently asked questions

London tops the list for sheer variety and density, followed closely by Birmingham, Paris and Berlin. All four have entire neighbourhoods where halal restaurants are the default, plus strong supermarket and butcher infrastructure.

Berlin offers the best combination of halal density and low prices among major cities. Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow are excellent UK value picks; Prague is the cheapest city with a real halal scene.

London, Paris, Berlin and Birmingham have the highest counts, each with a central mosque plus dozens of neighbourhood masjids. Amsterdam, Brussels, Vienna and Manchester are also well served.

Both are outstanding. London wins on English language, certification clarity and variety; Paris wins on North African and Levantine cuisine quality. Many travellers happily do both — they are just over two hours apart by Eurostar.

Yes — Spain's Costa del Sol and Barcelona offer halal restaurants with a beach holiday attached, and Turkey's Mediterranean coast (outside the EU but nearby) is purpose-built for Muslim families. Within our guides, Barcelona is the strongest beach-plus-halal combination.

None of the cities in our guides should be avoided — all have functioning halal infrastructure. The difference is one of density: in Prague, Lisbon, Dublin or Rome you will plan meals a little more deliberately than in London or Berlin, but you will still eat well.
