Halal Restaurants in Madrid
Madrid's halal food scene is smaller than London's or Paris's, but it is concentrated, affordable and easy to navigate. The neighbourhood to know is Lavapiés — the city's most multicultural barrio, a short walk from the centre — where Indian restaurants, halal kebab shops and Middle Eastern eateries line Calle de Lavapiés and the surrounding streets. For Muslim travellers, this one area covers most needs: curries and tandoori, döner and shawarma, falafel and Lebanese plates, all at prices that are among the lowest of any capital in this guide.
Spain's halal awareness is growing, and many restaurants in Lavapiés advertise "halal" openly. Indian restaurants are a reliable backbone of the halal scene here, with long-running family kitchens serving chicken tikka masala, biryani and fresh naan. Falafel specialists and Lebanese-style counters add vegetarian-friendly options, while halal kebab shops near La Latina and Puerta de Moros serve late-night crowds. As in much of Spain, lunch is the main meal — the menú del día at midday is often the best value of the day.
A practical note for Madrid: outside Lavapiés and a few spots in Centro, halal options thin out quickly, so plan around the neighbourhood rather than wandering. Asking "¿Es halal?" is widely understood in these areas. The restaurants below are ones we have confirmed by name and street address from public web sources; each listing shows a verification badge so you know exactly what was checked. We never invent phone numbers or opening hours — what we could not verify, we left out. As always, confirm halal status with the restaurant before visiting.
During Ramadan, Lavapiés becomes the natural hub for Muslim travellers: Indian restaurants and kebab shops extend their hours, and the area's small halal butchers and grocers stock dates and Ramadan staples. The Madrid Central Mosque (Mezquita Central de Madrid) in Tetuán is a metro ride away for Friday and taraweeh prayers.
