The short version: Five Guys is halal in the UK only in some stores — and the distinction matters. Exactly 3 UK stores are fully halal-certified by the Halal Certification Organisation (HCO) and sell no pork or alcohol: Birmingham Fort, London Park Royal and Manchester Arndale. About 30 more stores serve halal beef but also cook pork bacon and sell beer. The rest of the UK serves no halal meat at all. Always check which group your store is in before ordering.

Not affiliated with Five Guys. This guide summarises Five Guys UK's own published halal information; always check the store's current status before visiting.

Five Guys is one of the few global burger chains that takes halal seriously enough to publish a store-by-store list — and that list is the only reliable answer to "is Five Guys halal?" Because the answer is three different answers, depending on the store.

Five Guys UK's own three store types

Five Guys UK sorts its restaurants into three groups on its halal information page. Which group your store is in decides the answer:

Store typeBeefPork bacon on siteAlcoholCertified?
Fully halal certifiedHalal British beefNoNoYes, by HCO
Halal beef storeHalal British beefYes, on separate grillsOften servedNo — beef only
Standard storeNot halalYesVariesNo

Answer block: Five Guys UK's own halal page states that its fully halal-certified stores "serve Halal beef, and no pork products/bacon or alcoholic drinks are available in these stores" — and names exactly three: Birmingham Fort, London Park Royal and Manchester Arndale. That is the only fully-certified tier; everything else is a judgement call.

The halal-beef-only stores (about 30)

These stores serve halal beef, but they also offer pork bacon on the menu — cooked on a separate grill and handled with separate utensils to minimise cross-contamination — and alcoholic drinks are served. Five Guys states plainly that these stores are not fully halal-certified by HCO. For strict observers, that distinction is decisive: the beef is halal, the store is not.

The published halal-beef list includes: Birmingham Five Ways, Bournemouth Castle Point, Cardiff The Red Dragon Centre, Coventry, Dudley (Merry Hill), Edinburgh Fountain Park, Enfield, Glasgow GRID, High Wycombe, Leeds Trinity, Liverpool Queen Square, London Bond Street, London Brixton, London Croydon Valley, London Kensington High Street, London Queensway, London Westfield (Shepherd's Bush), London Westfield (Stratford), London Wimbledon, London Wood Green, Manchester Fort, Manchester Parrs Wood, Milton Keynes, Nottingham Long Row, Peterborough, Preston, Reading Oracle, Sheffield The Moor and Stoke-on-Trent. If your local store is not in either list, it is a standard store: no halal products at all.

Famous but excluded: every other Five Guys in Britain. Most Five Guys restaurants in England, Scotland and Wales are standard stores that do not serve halal beef at all — and even the halal-beef stores fail the strict bar because they serve pork bacon and alcohol on site. Only the three HCO-certified stores pass. A burger chain's fame is not a halal credential; the store list is.

Five Guys halal status worldwide

The UK's three-tier system is unusual. In the United States, Canada and Australia, Five Guys is not halal at all — the company says its beef in those markets "is not kosher, halal or organic", and Five Guys Australia states plainly that it does not offer halal in that market. Singapore is also not halal. France sits in between, with more than 15 stores serving halal beef on the same separate-grill model as the UK's middle tier. In the Gulf states, meat sold to the public must be halal, and in Malaysia the meat is halal-certified even though the restaurants do not hold their own certificate. The lesson is the same as everywhere in this guide: country first, store second, never assume.

What to order at a fully certified Five Guys

At Birmingham Fort, Park Royal or Arndale, the whole menu works: burgers built from halal British beef with 15 free toppings and over 250,000 possible combinations, hand-cut boardwalk-style fries cooked in 100% peanut oil (with an extra scoop tipped into the bag), and hand-spun shakes with over 1,000 mix-in combinations. No freezers in the restaurant; everything is cooked to order. At a halal-beef-only store, the same food is available but the strict-certification question remains yours to answer. At a standard store, order nothing with meat.

Practical tips

  1. Check the store list before you travel. Only 3 of 100+ UK stores are fully certified — do not assume your local one qualifies.
  2. Ask in store if unsure. Staff can confirm whether the store is certified or halal-beef-only.
  3. Remember the middle tier's catch. Halal beef plus pork bacon plus beer is not a halal restaurant, however good the beef is.
  4. Five Guys Rewards and click-and-collect work at all stores — but the halal question is about the kitchen, not the app.
