Is KFC Halal in Spain?
Published: 2026-10-22 · Updated: 24 October 2026

The short version: No. KFC Spain offers no halal-certified chicken, publishes no halal certification, and serves pork products on its standard menu. Unlike France — where 24 KFC restaurants switched to halal-only menus in January 2026 — Spain has no halal KFC at all. The reliable alternative is an independently owned halal chicken shop with a visible certificate.
The "is KFC halal?" question gets a different answer in almost every European country, which is exactly why it keeps being asked. KFC's halal policy is decided country by country — even branch by branch — not globally. That makes the Spanish answer crisp: there is no halal-certified KFC in Spain. We checked KFC's own statements, certification records and published menu information for every claim below, and there is no published halal certificate covering any KFC restaurant in Spain.
This is the same method behind our other chain guides — Is KFC halal in Germany? (answer: no) and Is KFC halal in France? (answer: partly, 24 restaurants) — so you can compare the exact situation across borders.
The official position: no halal in Spain, without exception
Three facts settle the question for Spain:
- No halal certification exists for KFC Spain. KFC Spain publishes no halal certificate and makes no halal claim for its chicken. Independent halal guides that track the chain country by country list Spain's standard menu as non-halal.
- Pork is on the menu. Bacon-topped burgers and other pork products appear on KFC Spain's menu. A kitchen serving pork alongside chicken cannot be treated as halal, even setting certification aside.
- No branch-level exceptions are documented. In the UK, around 200 KFC branches serve Halal Food Authority-certified chicken with visible stickers. In Spain, no branch publishes any such claim — no sticker, no notice, no certifier.
Spain has no national halal certification requirement for restaurants, and KFC Spain has never applied for one. Until that changes — and until a branch shows a current certificate — treat every KFC in Spain as non-halal.
Why Spain differs from France and the UK
The contrast with two neighbours is what makes this question so confusing, so here it is side by side:
| Country | Is KFC halal? | Certified by | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spain | No | None | No halal claim from KFC Spain; pork on the menu |
| France | Partly — 24 restaurants | Certified suppliers | Halal-only menus since 21 January 2026; clear signage; list on KFC's website and app |
| United Kingdom | Partly — ~200 branches | Halal Food Authority (HFA) | Look for the HFA sticker; use KFC UK's store finder |
| Germany | No | None | No halal chicken; pork on the menu (see our Germany guide) |
| Malaysia | Yes, all restaurants | JAKIM | Every product sold is halal |
| Singapore | Yes | MUIS | Certified outlet by outlet |
France is the instructive case: starting 21 January 2026, KFC France announced that 24 of its 404 restaurants would serve only certified halal chicken — a strategic response to local demand in urban areas with strong Muslim communities. Those outlets carry clear signage and appear on KFC's website and mobile app. The move proves the chain can go halal where it sees demand. Spain has simply never made that move: no announcement, no pilot, no signage anywhere in the country.
How to check any specific branch
- Look for a certificate, not a rumour. A halal claim worth trusting is a current certificate displayed in the restaurant or published on the chain's website — not a blog post from 2019.
- Check the allergen and ingredient information on KFC Spain's website for pork content.
- Ask the staff directly — "¿El pollo es halal?" ("Is the chicken halal?") — and ask to see documentation if the answer is yes.
- Cross the border wisely: if you're travelling between Spain and France, remember the situation flips — 24 French KFCs are halal-only, but every Spanish one is not. Never assume a branch near the border shares the other country's policy.
What's safe to eat at KFC Spain
Strictly speaking: vegetarian sides (fries, corn) carry no meat issue, but they are cooked in a kitchen handling pork and non-halal chicken, with no segregation guarantees. For strict halal observers, there is nothing on the Spanish menu we can recommend. The honest answer beats a creative workaround.
Where to go instead in Spain
Spain's halal fried-chicken answer is the same as in most of Europe: independently owned halal chicken shops. In Madrid, they cluster in the Lavapiés quarter and other multicultural neighbourhoods; in Barcelona, look to the Raval. The pattern to trust: a visible halal certificate on the wall, "halal" printed on the menu (not just a handwritten sign), and staff who answer the question without hesitation. Our Madrid guide covers the city's verified halal restaurants, and Barcelona is covered too.

No halal KFC exists in Spain — no certification, pork on the menu, no branch exceptions. France has 24 halal-only KFCs since January 2026 and the UK has ~200 HFA branches, but Spain has none. For fried chicken in Spain, go to an independently owned halal chicken shop with a visible certificate. halaleuropeguide.com
Frequently asked questions
Is KFC halal in Spain?
No. KFC Spain offers no halal-certified chicken, and pork products appear on the menu. There is no published halal certification for any KFC restaurant in Spain.
Is KFC halal in France?
Partly. Since 21 January 2026, 24 of KFC France's 404 restaurants are halal-only, with clear signage and the list published on KFC's website and app. The other 380 are not.
Is KFC halal in the UK?
Partly. Around 200 of the UK's KFC restaurants serve halal chicken certified by the Halal Food Authority — look for the HFA sticker and use KFC UK's store finder before visiting.
Does KFC Spain serve pork?
Yes. Pork products, such as bacon-topped burgers, appear on KFC Spain's menu — which on its own rules out treating the kitchen as halal.
Which European countries have halal KFC?
France has 24 halal-only KFC restaurants (since January 2026) and the UK has around 200 halal branches. Spain, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands' standard menus are not halal.
Where can I get halal fried chicken in Spain?
Independently owned halal chicken shops in Spain's Muslim neighbourhoods — for example Madrid's Lavapiés quarter — are the reliable option. Look for a visible halal certificate or the word "halal" on the menu, and ask staff when unsure.
Final thoughts
Chains make halal decisions country by country, and Spain's decision is clear: no halal KFC, full stop. The good news is that Spain's own halal chicken shops — run by people who built their business on the halal promise — are often better fried chicken anyway.
